Believe it or not, there are over 250 years of sewing experience between us! Go ahead! Spend a little time getting to know just who we are and why we do what we do…

Russell Scott
Russell   The eldest of two children, Russell Scott was born some 40 years ago (well, OK, 42 years). Though his mother most assuredly loved him the most (and his brother, too – “I love you the most, and I love you the most – I love you both the most…”)

Rebecca McClure
Rebecca   Sewing has been a vital part of my life since my grandma taught me to sew when I was 11; in fact it’s been by far the most consistent, ever-present thread running through my journey from childhood to present. My first sewing project with Grandma was a crop top and pair of shorts made from fabric with a strawberry print made for hot, humid Arkansas summers (I grew up in Illinois but spent summers at my grandparents’ in Arkansas).

Yolanda Chambers
Yolanda   I have enjoyed sewing ever since I can remember. I learned from my sisters. Making simple things and crafts. When I acquired my first job it was for an insurance company. I worked there for many years sewing some, but not much...

Chris Mankofsky
Chris   My interest in sewing started in my pre-school years when my mother began to teach me to sew and embroider by hand. Before long I graduated to machine sewing, first on my grandmother’s treadle machine, then on my mother’s Kenmore portable. As I grew up, the majority of my wardrobe was of my own making.

Sue Terpin
Russell   Hmmmmmmmm, well I started sewing young, taught my Mum (that's not a typo) to sew when I was 10.

Had my own label and Bridal boutique in Australia before studying Millinery (hat making) with one of the Royal Milliners in London.

Peggy Yamamoto

I grew up watching my mother sew on her green singer sewing machine. She seemed to be forever sewing for my sisters and herself! Little did I know this was her safe harbor.

My mom attended the Wolfe School of Design in the 30's had quite the eye and talent for fashion. Unfortunately, I do not share her eye for high design, but I do share her love for sewing...

Judy Fritz
Russell   There may have been tiny hints about the new life I’m attempting at Sewing Arts Center. There was the toy sewing machine. I think I was expected to make doll clothes but I wasn’t really into dolls so the little machine gathered dust. (The good news is I still have it.) The only nod to creativity was drawing random intersecting lines on paper and filling in the shapes with as many different crayons as I could find. ALWAYS within the lines. But oh the magic of that first box of 64 crayons!
