Russell Scott once told a well-known quilting celebrity at a shoot for a quilting show that he would sooner give up his really good sewing machine than give up a really good ironing system. The celeb looked at him somewhat incredulously, and he continued to clarify by saying that if he absolutely had to, he could sew on any sewing machine other than his beloved Husqvarna Viking – it might pain him to do so, but he could do it…if the lights were out…and he had no alternative other than to hand sew…
People invariably undervalue the importance of great pressing equipment. It doesn’t matter if a seam is the most beautifully stitched seam in the entire world. If the seam isn’t pressed well, the garment won’t look finished, the quilt won’t lay flat, and whatever is being sewn won’t have that remarkable edge that only really well-made, well-tailored, well-crafted and well-pressed sewing items have.
