Sewing Arts Flashy News Flash

Published: Thursday - October 9, 2008

I just looked at my last entry… back more than a month ago! What have I been doing? (I’m a slacker…) Hi, kids! Hope your world is not as tumultuous as the rest of the world currently appears. Colorful times… (Don’t get me started…) Anyways…

This is just a quick note to let you know what’s up up up at Sewing Arts. Firstly (is that a word?), Linda Miller joins us tomorrow evening as our featured artist in our Portrait of the Sewing Artist series. She’s doing some really extraordinary work, and will be sharing 29 pieces from her collection tomorrow evening from 7-9 PM. If you’ve been looking for a bit of inspiration, Linda’s palette of design, color and threadwork will open up your eyes to some very exciting quilting art avenues. We’ll have light refreshments and great conversation. It’s a fabulous opportunity for you to see what one of your fellow quilters is doing in the quilting world. Please be our guests!

Classes are full speed ahead! With the holidays upon us, you might take a moment to take a gander at some of the classes to see just what might spur you on to make something for those people who warrant such special attention from you, whether it be a purse, a quilt, a stocking, a skirt, pajama pants or or or or or…

Relevant to classes, we just finalized dates for our Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond training: Friday, November 7th from 5-9 PM, and Saturday, November 8th, from 9-5 PM. If you haven’t enrolled yet, give us a holler and we’ll be happy to get you enrolled, and to give you all the juicy details.

With the launch of the fabulous Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond, we’ve had a slew of trade-ins, and have several, absolutely lovely Designer SE’s, Designer 1’s and 2’s available that we’ll be selling below our cost. If you’re in the market, I can guarantee you that you’ve never seen prices like these at Sewing Arts. First come, first served. Sorry, at these prices, no lay-aways (but you can certainly use your Home Source card.)

On product fronts, new fabrics are arriving all the time, including a brilliant under the sea collection, as well as some very cozy chenilles. A new kiosk of books by Krause Publications now adorns the floor with great new titles on a myriad of sewing subjects. In addition, we’ve received the newly launched Quilt Mania magazine about which everyone is raving. Isacord’s new variegated threads are in, too, and they are delectable! We also just received Gingher’s new line of rotary cutting mats that are AWESOME! Double-sided, they are a dream!

We’ve also (lots of "also's" in this missive...) got a very closely guarded, but very exciting piece of news to share with you…but you’ll have to wait until next week…

For those of you in the know, Becky’s recuperating nicely. For those of you who don’t, she and I were walking the dogs in Runyan Canyon. It was an absolutely perfectly beautiful morning…for about 10 minutes. After that… well, she decided she should slide downhill instead of walk. Becky, who does everything with that sort of va-va-voom flair, slipped backwards and tried to catch her fall with her wrist, which then became a mad dash for the emergency room. The long and the short of it, 4 broken bones, a dislocation, surgery, pins and plates later, she’s doing remarkably well! The boring part of it is that there’s no remarkably interesting story involved. But come by to visit and we’ll be happy to make one up… or two… (Becky’s favorite story is that she smacked me upside the head which means either I’m very hard-headed, or she’s very mean to me… or I deserved it. Viewer’s choice, you let us know what is most entertaining. The way the rumor mill works, this should be fun…)

And speaking of dog walking, you may also know that Stanley, Ruby and I adopted two VERY BUSY Border Collies. Samantha and Lugosi are doing swimmingly well. Ruby’s acclimating… This weekend on Sunday, we’ll be participating in the Strut Your Mutt LA walk to help raise funds that’ll help save thousands of homeless pets in LA. If you’d be so kind as to spare a few dollars to support the event, you can donate to the cause by clicking on our fund-raising link at http://www.active.com/donate/strutyourmuttla2008/Bordercology. You’ll see a fabulous picture of Ruby, and you’ll be supporting a great cause for…paws… (I’m on a roll.) And, if you’re so inclined to join us at the event, you can find more info at http://network.bestfriends.org/losangeles/news/28895.html. This event is also home to the largest pet adoption festival in California with more than 1000 animals there…looking for homes. If you know of a home…or you can make a home…there’s lots of dogs and cats and kittens and puppies and rabbits looking for someone to love…like you… (Can I have a bunny?)

That’s it for the moment! Hope the day puts a smile on your face.
